Atlanta 404 Event Ends Before Deadly Piedmont Park Shooting, Prompting Serious Security Questions
Woman Killed, Teen Injured in Piedmont Park Shooting Following 404 Day Festival in Atlanta
ATLANTA, Ga. — Authorities are investigating a deadly shooting that took place Saturday night inside Piedmont Park, leaving one woman dead and a teenage girl injured.
According to the Atlanta Police Department, officers responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 9:03 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered two female victims suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. One woman was pronounced dead at the scene, while the second victim, a 15-year-old girl, was alert and breathing when she was transported to a nearby hospital.
Police clarified that the shooting was not connected to the nearby 404 Day Festival, which had concluded earlier that evening. Officials stated the event ended around 7:45 p.m. and took place on the opposite side of the park, more than an hour before the shooting was reported.
Preliminary findings indicate the incident may have stemmed from an unpermitted gathering near the far west end of Piedmont Park.
Homicide detectives have been assigned to the case and are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

When shootings occur in or near public spaces, important legal questions may arise:
- Were adequate security measures in place before and after the event?
