A second man sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the arm and was later treated at a medical facility after being dropped off by an unidentified individual.

Police responded to the scene around 1:01 a.m., where officers found Mincey deceased from a gunshot wound. Mincey was identified using an SPD portable fingerprint scanner, and his family has been notified. His body will be transported by the Bulloch County Coroner’s Office to the GBI Coastal Regional Lab for an autopsy.

Our Legal Take: Could the Statesboro Parking Lot Shooting Have Been Prevented?

Our Perspective at Georgia Victims

At Georgia Victims, we are deeply troubled by the tragic Statesboro, GA parking lot shooting that claimed the life of Deontre Mincey and left another individual injured. Gun violence in public spaces — especially in commercial areas like bars, clubs, and retail parking lots — raises serious concerns about security negligence and the duty of property owners to keep visitors safe.

When a shooting occurs at a business, apartment complex, or public area, key concerns arise regarding property security and negligence.

Customers and guests have the legal right to expect reasonable security measures when visiting businesses or entertainment venues. When violence occurs on a commercial property, key questions must be asked:

  • Were there prior incidents of crime or violence reported in or near the 200 Lanier Drive area?
  • Did the property owner or management have knowledge of safety concerns or criminal activity on or near the premises?
  • Were there adequate security measures in place, such as surveillance cameras, lighting, or security personnel?
  • Could stronger security precautions have helped prevent this fatal shooting?tragedy?

Under Georgia premises liability law, business and property owners can be held legally responsible if inadequate security or negligence contributes to foreseeable harm. If evidence shows that insufficient safety measures played a role in this tragedy, Deontre Mincey’s family — and other victims of gun violence — may have the right to pursue justice and financial compensation through a negligent security claim.
