Our Perspective at Georgia Victims

At Georgia Victims, we extend our deepest condolences to the family of Kennarius Roshawn McBride, whose life was tragically taken during the shooting inside a Sunoco convenience store in Waynesboro, Georgia. This devastating loss highlights growing concerns about violent incidents occurring at commercial properties and the responsibility of business owners and managers to ensure adequate safety measures are in place to protect customers and visitors.

When a shooting occurs at a business, apartment complex, or public area, key concerns arise regarding property security and negligence.

When shootings occur in areas accessible to the public, important safety questions arise:

  • Did the property owner or management know about prior criminal activity or safety risks near the location?
  • Did the property owner or business management know about potential criminal activity or safety risks on or near the premises?
  • Were there adequate security measures in place, such as surveillance cameras, lighting, or security personnel?
  • Could stronger security precautions have helped prevent this fatal shooting?

Under Georgia premises liability law, property owners and business operators may be held legally responsible if inadequate security or negligence contributes to foreseeable harm. If evidence shows that additional precautions could have helped prevent this tragedy, Kennarius Roshawn McBride's family — and other victims of violent crime — may have the right to pursue justice and financial compensation through a negligent security claim.

Gary Matthews Killed, Another Critically Injured in Clarkston Shooting Outside Adult Club. Questions Raised Over Security Negligence

Justice for Gary Matthews: Legal Options for Family After Clarkston, GA Shooting

CLARKSTON, Ga. — [UPDATE 11/04/25] — The Clarkston Police Department is investigating a deadly early-morning shooting that left one man dead and another critically injured outside an adult entertainment club on Brockett Road.

Authorities say officers responded to the scene around 3:55 a.m. Saturday after reports of gunfire outside the club located at 1353 Brockett Road near U.S. 78.

Victim Identified as Gary Matthews

Police identified the deceased victim as 31-year-old Gary Matthews of Lithonia, who was celebrating his birthday when the shooting occurred.

According to investigators, Matthews and three others — two men and two women — were sitting in a vehicle when two men exited a Jeep and opened fire. Officers attempted to pursue the suspects as they fled in the vehicle, but the Jeep was later discovered abandoned nearby.

A second male victim was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, authorities confirmed.

The DeKalb County Police Department assisted at the scene, though Clarkston Police continue to lead the investigation. As of now, no arrests have been made, and officials have not released suspect descriptions or potential motives. It remains unclear whether the victims and suspects knew each other or if surveillance footage captured the shooting.

Our Legal Take: Could the Conley, Georgia Shooting That Killed Kinaya Hightower Have Been Prevented?

Our Perspective at Georgia Victims

At Georgia Victims, we are deeply saddened by the tragic death of Kinaya Hightower, who was killed as an innocent bystander during a shootout at a car meet-up in Conley, Georgia. Gun violence in public spaces — especially at commercial properties like gas stations and parking lots — raises serious concerns about security negligence and the responsibility of property owners to protect the public.

When a shooting occurs at a business, apartment complex, or public area, key concerns arise regarding property security and negligence.

When shootings occur in areas accessible to the public, important safety questions arise:

  • Were there previous incidents of violence or crime reported at or near the 3000 block of Moreland Avenue?
  • Did the property owner or business management know about potential criminal activity or safety risks on or near the premises?
  • Were there adequate security measures in place, such as surveillance cameras, lighting, or security personnel?
  • Could stronger security precautions have helped prevent this fatal shooting?

Under Georgia premises liability law, property owners and business operators may be held legally responsible if inadequate security or negligence contributes to foreseeable harm. If evidence shows that stronger safety measures could have prevented this deadly shooting, Kinaya Hightower’s family — like other victims of gun violence — may have the right to pursue justice and financial compensation through a negligent security claim.
